What’s happening in Ms. Imrie’s class?!?

It is amazing how time flies when we all stay so busy! It’s time to pack away the pumpkins and get out the Thanksgiving gear! November snuck right up on us!

Tomorrow is Election Day! How exciting for the students and for our country! By tomorrow we’ll have a new president. We have learned a lot about elections in first grade, but be sure to talk to your student about how you will be voting tomorrow. The polls will be open 9-11 a.m. tomorrow for the students. A great BIG thanks to the parent volunteers who are coming to help!!

Be sure to practice the High Frequency words with your child until he or she knows them by sight. They are important to improve reading fluency and comprehension.

This quarter we have begun weekly spelling assessments. The lists will be 10 words–6 from the skill we study that week–2 review words from the previous week–and 2 high frequency words. We do word work daily with the words so most students will do well on the Friday assessments without practicing too much at home. The lists are published on a cool website:

www.spellingcity.com

The site has lots of neat games to play with the current list. To find the lists, type in my last name (Imrie) in the search box and then locate this week’s date. This week it is the -ng diphthong as in king, sing, hang.

Have a great week!
