This week is bat week! We will learn all about bats and do many activities surrounding bats!
Be sure to check out my website for pictures of spider week. It was a very interesting week–the live spiders were a big hit and some students even brought live spiders of their own. I love when the students take an active interest in “helping” me and the things we learn about.
We had our first high frequency words assessment last week. We will be doing retakes for the students that need them this Friday. I will be sending a copy of the test home on Monday. If your student missed 5 or more they will do the retake and I will average the two scores together as the final grade on the words. We will practice with the students who need it at school every day. Be sure to practice at home! It is important that students know these words by “sight”. Word attack skills generally will not help with these words. They are “oddities”. Some of them appear so much in our language, that knowing them by sight makes reading more fluent.
